Date: Sun, 13 Jul 2003 21:29:05 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Joe Halloran Subject: Patapsco at Daniels Dam - Planet of the Kingfishers MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Canoeing up the Patapsco at Daniels Dam this Sunday am - perfect summer morning, clear water - not scummy like last year - hardly any other people til 10 am or so - Kingfishers every 100 feet - most I have ever seen in one place - also two GBH, one Spotted Sandpiper, Canada Geese with a couple Greylags and what looked like a Canada/Greylag hybrid(?), Mallards and various unseen callers (PeeWee, Phoebe, Wood Thrush and all too many unidentified) - two Muskrats also - the best bird was a lovely Green Heron who flew ahead of us for awhile but then stayed put for really close looks for ten minutes or more - wonderful colors, this bird seemed more blue gray and reddish purple than green and brown.
