The highlight was when we spotted 2 Black Terns flying rather eratically over the Potomac, occasionally dipping down to the water's surface. They were either juveniles or adults well on their way to moulting into winter plumage. Also present were 2 Great Egrets, a Coopers Hawk (being harrassed by a Kingbird), several Osprey, an adult Bald Eagle, many Indigo Buntings, 1 male Blue Grosbeak, Grasshopper Sparrows, Field Sparrows, and a Yellow Billed Cuckoo. Many Barn Swallows and Chimney Swifts hawked over the fields. Other birds seen or heard included Cardinals, Common Yellowthroats, Carolina Wren, Goldfinch, several gulls, Eastern Bluebird, Mourning Dove, Red Eyed Vireo, Eastern Pewee, Eastern Phoebe, Mockingbird, American Crow, Fish Crow, and Canada Geese.
