This was an immature bird - when I saw it just before noon, it was standing like a statue in the pond closest to Sharp Road. I stopped at the entrance to Pickering Creek (on Audubon Lane) and scoped it carefully - getting a great view with no ambiguity about thick black bill, long neck, well defined striping, etc. About a half hour later, as I left the sanctuary grounds, I stopped for another view. This time it was farther away from Audubon Lane, and had been joined by a Great Blue Heron. The Y-C was stalking prey - perhaps it will stay around if the frog catching is good. Also around - two Snowy Egrets and a few Least Sandpipers.
