Alas, no Whip-poor-will was calling. I heard and saw usual suspects, including a juvenile towhee. At area 17/18 I heard an Ovenbird sing once. From: Denise Ryan Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 07:58:31 -0400 Rock Creek Park this morning around 6:30 a.m. parking area 20, I think I heard a Whippoorwill calling - duration 10 min. It was a very slow call, slower than my tapes and it also had an occassional chuckle quality like a thrush. Sometimes it was just the "poorwill" part of the call. Any thoughts about other possibilities? I was pretty surprised, but I realize there could be some youngsters learning to sing that sound nothing like an adult.
