(They're colored just like dead leaves themselves; it was the motion that caught my eye.) Hanging over it on a low branch was a juvenile cardinal, absolutely fascinated. The cardinal flew away briefly, then returned to continue observing this unfamiliar food-gathering technique. Finally the towhee, seemingly annoyed, jumped towards the cardinal and chased it away.
