In the Tidal Basin and on the adjoining Potomac, there were a few Double-crested Cormorants. On the Potomac, near the bridge over the Tidal Basin outlet, there was an eclipse-plumaged Wood Duck. In the DC Veteran's Memorial woods, the other standout of the walk was a family of Great Crested Flycatchers: the adults feeding two fledglings that were clearly still learning how to use their wings. Eastern Kingbird families were numerous in the area, and there were a lot of young American Robins too. In the Constitution Gardens pond, a young Great Blue Heron was fishing.
