Please bookmark this interest for a couple of months till the new applications come out for the 2003 contest. The Junior Duck Stamp contest is a great program for kids and teens up through high school. It is both a conservation education and art appreciation program in equal measure. While there are kids from every county in the state who enter, there could be so many more. Teachers need to get interested, and if they plan to do it as a class art project, or just offer their students the opportunity, there are enough kids who will give it a go, and the effort can lead to awards (there are 101 total state awards, split in 4 age categories) and other art endeavors. Every kid who enters benefits no matter what his or her ability. The Junior Duck Stamp Contest is great for home schoolers, too, and can be a great vehicle for field trips and multi-disciplinary lessons. Please give some thought to encouraging a teacher, kid or grandkid that you could encourage to enter. I'll post some info on the application procedure when it becomes available.
