Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2003 14:25:08 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Denise Ryan Subject: Roosevelt Island by water and environs up North of Georgetown MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Sunday morning by kayak out of Thompson's Boat center with my favorite waterproof binocs yielded the following observations - Rising tide Mourning Doves Rock Doves Starlings Red Bellied Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Mockingbird Catbird Goldfinch House Sparrow Carolina Wren Cardinal 4 Crows 1Great Egret 4 Blue Heron Mallards - more than I cared to count 2 Pairs of Wood Ducks 7 Double Crested Cormorants 3 Osprey on and around Roosevelt Island - one perched gawky youngster making a big fuss 1 Chimney Swift following one of the Ospreys around as it circled around Roosevelt Island. Interesting behavior. Barn Swallows under the walkway to Roosevelt Island - with active feeding of fledged youngsters Ring Billed Gulls 1 Laughing Gull 2 Un-ID'd shore birds. They snuck up in flight from behind so all I got was a fast tail-end view. They were smaller than Killdeer and had white rumps. They flew up river, so I paddled for a 30 minutes hoping to find them with no luck.
