Barry spoke to Hans yesterday evening and got a few more details on the sighting, which sounded pretty convincing. In any case, we got there about 10:45, and worked the field pretty thoroughly over a 3-hour period, from a number of vantage points including the dirt farm road at the back side. There were fewer Horned Larks than seen yesterday, perhaps 25-30, but there was also definite comings and goings of birds. While we were there a couple of other birders showed up, and one had been there earlier that morning as well (unsuccessfully). Unfortunately, while we were there we only saw larks, plus a couple of Semi-p Plovers and Least SPs in the field. We also drove around in the vicinity of the field on Rt. 392, looking for other bare fields which might support larks, without success. The field on 392 does look very good, wet pools and damp areas, so it is probably worth repeated checking in the next few days.
