We were looking for Blue Grosbeak for our Somerset list when we found a 1st winter LARK SPARROW. Jim Brighton and I found it around noon today(8/24) on Deal Island were you first turn onto Riley Roberts Road. Also saw six Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrows down by Irish Grove. Friday(8/22) I met up with Joe Byrnes and we drove the ORV Zone , the birding was good, 2 Black Tern, 2 Sandwich Tern, 1 Whimbrel, and lots of other shorebirds. On Saturday Jim and I did a 300 mile tour through Talbot, Queen Anne's, Caroline, and Dorchester Counties, targeting shorebirds. Central Sod Farm hosted a GOLDEN PLOVER, my first for the year, there were also Semipalmated Plovers. In Caroline county we had some nice looks at a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. On Friday at the Salisbury bypass impoundments there was a Glossy ibis, and today there were two. My target bird for the weekend was Lark Sparrow, Joe and I looked on Assateague for a while on friday with out any luck. Finding one in Somerset was not what i expected, but very rewarding .
