Chestnut-sided Warbler in Glen Echo MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On this beautiful day, had a visit from a juvenile CHESTNUT-SIDED = WARBLER in our backyard. It stuck around for a while, going from tree = to tree to the crepe myrtle, 'til it was chased off by House Sparrows = (many adults, many juveniles; too many). Also saw an adult PROTHONOTARY WARBLER down on the C & O Canal not far = below Lock 7 earlier in the morning. Heard 5 RED-EYED VIREOS and 4 = EASTERN WOOD PEEWEES along the towpath and trails by the river going = east. On the river itself, saw 2-3 OSPREY fishing at Little Falls Dam. = 8 or so DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were sunning on the rocks beneath the = raptors, with a 5 Great Blue Herons, 2 KILLDEER (1ad; 1juv), a Green = Heron and a RING-BILLED GULL nearby Other birds of note in the yard were: Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (at least 2 rather fat adult males; 1 adult = female beginning to put on weight; at least 2 juvenile males) juv. Acadian Flycatcher (this was a surprise; came in with the juv. = Chestnut-sided Warbler) juv. Red-bellied Woodpeckers (2, generally accompanied by adult male & = female) juv. Downy Woodpeckers (2 males) juv. Carolina Wren juv. No. Cardinals (2, wi adults around) Chimney Swifts are still flitting about. Did not see/hear any C. Nighthawks here, nor (for those who were asking = about them in downtown DC) have I seen or heard any in the vicinity of = 20th & L since back in June. Have been looking/listening for them, too. = Maybe soon....
