The lighthouse aficionados are hosting a statewide festival that weekend. The little parking lot at Turkey Point will be CLOSED TO VEHICLES. Instead, people will be directed to park at the North East River beach lot ($2 fee) and take a shuttle bus to Turkey Point (additional $2 fee per person). At this time, we are not sure if we will be able to get our official counters in to count hawks that weekend. We're still working on that with the park, and of course mid-September is the height of broadwing and sharpie season, so we don't want to lose any counting time. We recommend that, if you want to come to Turkey Point for hawks or warblers or whatever, you either brace yourself to deal with crowds of tourists, or plan to come another weekend instead. A weekend-long event has been planned for that date by the lighthouse association and they anticipate hundreds of people -- not conducive to birding. The BBC trip has been rescheduled for the following Sunday, September 21, same time and meeting place. For more info see the BBC homepage at http://baltimorebirdclub.org. Please call or email me if you're interested or have any questions. I expect the 21st to be just as productive as the earlier date. Many thanks to Candi Lee of the Cecil Bird Club for alerting us to this event and preventing an unfortunate situation.
