Date: Sun, 31 Aug 2003 12:05:48 EDT Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Rick Sussman Subject: Layhill Park, Sunday Aug. 31 Comments: To: voice@audubonnaturalist.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Layhill Park, Montgomery County, Sunday Aug. 31 Fairly quiet in the park this morning (only 44 species located), but I did manage to find 11 species of warblers moving through (though at least one was probably a resident breeder, Yellow-breasted Chat). 5 of these were species I did not see yesterday at Meadowside, including the Chat, many Common Yellowthroats, Worm-eating Warbler, Black & White Warbler, and a relatively early female Black-throated Blue Warbler. 15 species seen in these 2 parks since yesterday, not a bad start for the season, considering it is still only August. Other finds today that I did not see yesterday included Indigo Bunting, Scarlet Tanager, and Common Nighthawks (4 flying over about 7 AM). Lots of interesting empids around today and yesterday but they defied identification as they were silent.
