He proceeded almost to the shore at our property; then turned toward the middle of the Potomac and swam about 200 yards, and then turned and swam back across the creek to the far side. The total journey was at least 2500 to 3000 ft (half a mile!). It was during an extreme high tide so we know he could not touch bottom for the entire trip. We were impressed with the speed he moved through the water, and that he seemed to have no destination.just out for a swim? The neighbors tell us that they have seen deer swim across the Potomac near our place where the river is a mile wide. The channel is at least 40 ft deep in most places and the current is around 3-5 mph. How do those skinny legs and tiny feet move them through the water? Amazed!
