I'm home on a one-day turnaround ... just arriving back from Gambell and Nome, Alaska from 8/26 - 9/12/2003. I've quickly posted several images of the Gambell Eurasian Wryneck at the following URL: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/pdavisbb/gambell_fall_2003_images.htm This web page also includes one image of the Gambell female Common Rosefinch. The Wryneck, discovered by Jim Zamos and Paul Lehman, was seen in the Gambell boatyard between 9/2 and 9/5. It mostly hung out and fed on whale bones/blubber. This is the second record for North America; the first was a dead bird found in Wales, AK (on the edge of the Bering Strait) on September 8, 1945. This is the first live bird seen and documented in North America. The Common Rosefinch, discovered by Paul Lehman, was seen on 9/1 and 9/2 in the "far boneyard". It was a great trip, other Gambell rarity highlights included Little Buntings, Reed Bunting, Middendorf's Grasshopper-Warbler, and a Siberian Accentor. Now, off to San Diego for a pelagic ...
