We have actually gone out 2-3 times over the last 5 years or so to check out possible Collared Doves in the DC area and have found them all to be Turtle Doves. These are common cage birds and escapes appear every so often. The National geo guide is good for separating the two species. If it is a Collared Dove, we all want to see it!
