I learned this week not to give up when I have two strikes against me. I had planned to go to Hart-Miller Island on Saturday but that didn't work out. Strike one. I decided to go to Ft. McHenry to take a long shot on the gull seen earlier this week but the Fort was closed (with Hazardous material removal). Strike two. There was still time to dirive up to Loch Raven Reservior before the parking disappeared at 10:00 am. At the large open area, I found a birdy pocket on the isthmus that goes out into the water. There I found scarlet tanagers, an empidonax I couldn't turn into any particular species, an Eastern Wood-Pewee, Caspian terns, black-troated green warblers, black and white warblers, and one CAPE MAY WARBLER! I know that the Yellow Book describes this as just the right time to see Cape May's, and I know for others it might not be a big deal, but it was a state bird for me! Don't give up with only two strikes. don Burggraf Baltimore dburggraf@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Share your photos without swamping your Inbox.
