Arboretum MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit This (Sunday, 9/28) morning, I went to NE DC instead of the usual fall trek to Rock Creek Park in NW (which was really slow yesterday). I stopped at both Kenilworth Park and the National Arboretum. While I didn't have much time, I was able to find 8 species of warblers, including my first Western Palm of the fall and a Nashville. The beginning of Fern Valley at the Arb was buzzing with activity, including 3 species of thrush (Wood, Veery & Swainson's), Red-eyed Vireo, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 2 E. Pewees, and 5 warbler species. I'm sure I would have found more if I had the time. And at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (as viewed from Kenilworth Park), there were 2 Blue-winged & 3 Green-winged Teals (my first for the fall). And to top it off, I had a close-out for my DCxMonth list - Eatern Bluebird (but I'm still behind John Hubbell in close-outs and way behind Rob Hilton for the Sept list). Finally, the number of Laughing Gulls on the Anacostia was roughly 2,500 yesterday afternoon (a very rough estimate). They stage here both in the mornings and evenings. I didn't try very hard to find anything unusual, but wouldn't be surprised if someone else did.
