It called = before we saw it in a stubble cornfield on John Shirk Road. This is a = traditional site for a wintering flock of larks which usually has a = longspur with it. The site is just off Otterdale Mill Road where John = Shirk makes 90 degree turns to the left and right. We watched it from = the road less than 100 feet away with scopes. The rufous greater = coverts with white trim were the most prominent field mark. We also visited the ponds at Mason Dixon Farm. There is very little = shorebird habitat but we did see 3 Killdeer and 2 Lesser Yellowlegs in = the east pond. In the west pond were about 60 Green-winged Teal, 5 = Pintail, 4 Shovelers, 1 Baldpate, 2 Wood Ducks, and Mallards. Four = pipits flew over. At the turf farm south of Taneytown were 17 Killdeer. = On Nusbaum Road at Big Pipe Creek were a Sapsucker, 2 Scarlet Tanagers, = and 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglets.
