Highlights were perhaps 4-5 PURPLE FINCHES, with at least 1 very bright male and the rest immatures/females feeding on winged fruit of the box elders. In the same vicinity were House Finches, Indigo Buntings and a nice group of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, both males and females. Other nice finds were a solitary Blue-headed Vireo, Red-eyed Vireos, and warblers including Tennessee, Blackpoll and Bay-breasted, lots of Black-throated Greens, Common Yellowthroats, American Redstarts, and Magnolias. A few flyover hawks included Coopers and Sharp-shinned, Red-tailed and Red-shouldered. A late Blue-gray Gnatcatcher may have been the same one I saw yesterday, and lots of Ruby-crowned Kinglets were around. Sparrows were few (no Lincoln's this morning), with Field, Song, and White-throats seen. A single Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was seen by at least myself, and a couple of Swainson's Thrushes were seen too. 54 species were tallied by 7 participants.
