Birders who call themselves listers have a tendency to keep all sorts of lists. I keep a North American life list (listing of all bird species identified by me in North America), state lists, county lists within Maryland, two separate yard lists, and, of course, year lists, locality lists, lists of birds seen in all 23 Maryland Counties and probably a few other manifestations of this obessive/compulsive birding behavior that I've forgotten about. I think for a while I was keeping a list of birds seen pooping, but the inelegance of this one got to me. For a long time my wife and I focused on our North American life lists. Now we spend a lot more time working on state-oriented lists--MD Life, MD Counties, yards, etc. I hope this helps.
