MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit William, Your analysis is spot on. My point was that all politics is local and that each of us individually contributes to the culture of excessive consumption of fossil fuels. That's where we must start if we ever hope to change this culture through political change. Sorry Norm, please feel free to cut off this thread at any time. It's not strictly speaking a Maryland bird issue, but it sits like a wet blanket over everything we like to do. Paul O'Brien Mont. I can't afford to drive or Fly to Newfoundland but the Ivory gull is a dream bird for most birders and hence my interest. As far as Global warming goes I concur with your sentiments completely. If the truth is negative can lies be positive? Unfortunately I think many Americans basically are willing to swallow that pill. What kills me is that I don't think the technology for creating clean renewable energy is that far off. What we have is more of a political problem ie the lack of political will to change the way we live in order to preserve our planet's climate. A basic inability to organize and challenge the oil and coal industries to bear the burden and the full cost associated with their product. It is sort of like the lies and cover up that the Cigarette companies employed in their fight to muddle the public's understandng of the effects of smoking..............except with Global warming the sick and dieing smoker is Planet Earth.
