Around 1:30 this afternoon (10/27), even with light rain
falling, the Clay-colored Sparrow was cooperative enough to give me a
couple of minutes of viewing. Location was in the roadside hedge about
half way down the entrance road from Sharp Road to the Pickering Creek
farm buildings. It even treated me to several repeats of its light
'seep' call. Also along the road were lots of White-throats, Swamp
Sparrows, Song Sparrows and one Towhee. 130 Green-winged Teal, 2
Mallards, and 2 Lesser Yellowlegs were in the wetland ponds. A single
Water Pipit did a fly-over. An Immature Northern Harrier passed over the
ponds, making all the ducks fly up. The Harrier then lit on one of the
small islands. The ducks returned to where they had been, but the
sparrows all disappeared for nearly 1/2 hour while the Harrier lingered.
At home beside Leeds Creek, an Osprey came past in the morning.
