I'll admit, it was a lifer for me, so I have no experience with them, and only limited amount with gray-cheeked. I subsequently went over the coverage of the species in Clements' "Thrushes," and also the series of articles on Catharids in "Birding" by Lane and Jaramillo. My description also seemed to meet their criteria. I was interested in L & J's report that the ratio of the primary extension to tertial length for Bicknell's was 1:1 or less, rather than the greater than 1:1 ratio for gray-cheeked. To say now that such seemed to be the case runs the risk of being influenced by what I read subsequently, but I'll just reiterate that the primary extension was quite short.
