Paul Pisano Paul, Another thing I recall was that on overcast days and/or rainy days in late fall-early winter, the Merlin would perch on that same dead snag throughout the day, not just towards dusk. I got in the habit of looking for it whenever it was "dark" from being rainy or overcast with heavy clouds, seeing it there more often than not. On clear sunny days, it seemed to be elsewhere, out hunting on the wing perhaps...
