I got out there about 3:15 today. Visible from Emmaus Rd. vantage were Great Blue Heron - 1 Hooded Merganser - 2 (m&f) Killdeer - 3+ Greater Yellowlegs - 1 Lesser Yellowlegs - 2 Another vantage is on I-70 just east of the overpass for Morgan Station Rd. This, of course, is to be used with extreme caution, and it is NOT a congenial spot! In the late afternoon sun, the light was all wrong. I did see a shorebird with what looked like a thick bill, but wrote it off because I thought I saw yellow legs. I'd forgotten about Dave's unidentified Dowitcher, so it COULD still be present. Frankly, Willet is what came to mind, based on the apparent thickness and length of bill. Dowitcher didn't occur to me. And the apparent leg color, which could have been a trick of the light.... Maybe tomorrow! I also checked the ponds on Daisy Rd, where I found 4 American Widgeon. Canada Geese and Mallards were present at both sites.
