The scarcity of crows (presumably from the depredations of West Nile) is bad enough, but losing the little dicky-birds too would be very alarming. Janet, The ANS youth birding club had an open house outing last Saturday at Woodend, where we birded the property for maybe an hour and a half without seeing or hearing a single titmouse! And that includes the area around the mansion with its many feeders. Lot and lots of robins and waxwings though, as well as Red-eyed and Blue-headed Vireo, both kinglets, catbird and yellowthroat, BT Green warbler and a mix of sparrows. Can't explain where the titmice (titmouse's?) have gone, but I'm sure they'll be back soon enough...
