My earlier note ended with mention that the five had been last seen by project engineers on Poplar Island on the morning of October 11th. This morning I learned that the project engineer saw them each day until October 24th. They were not present on Poplar Island after that. Two days ago, Oct 30th, my wife and I drove to Bombay Hook for a day of birding - and found Five American White Pelicans feeding happily on the waters of Bear Swamp Pond. The Bombay Hook sightings log did not carry any mention of them prior to the morning of the 30th. Were these the same birds as those that had been in Talbot County? Perhaps, but not a proven fact. Also, our local Easton newspaper yesterday (10/31) included mention of another sighting of five White Pelicans flying over Route 50 recently. No specific date was given.
