Always something different to tease our minds and souls! There are many races of Song Sparrow and this could have been a migrant. There is a tremendous variation in Song Sparrow songs (at least on the recordings I have used in the past). I agree. In the trips we have done out west, I was surprised at how often I would hear a strange song and find a song sparrow doing it. They come in a lot of different hues, too. Most of the western races are darker than ours. I almost find it hard to believe all of these birds are supposed to be the same species.
