Sadly there were no swallows of any = kind about. The outing went well nonetheless. I started at Great Oak Pond - swamped with over 4000 Snow Geese, = fortunately I found an adult ROSS'S GOOSE fairly quickly on the east = dike near the road. Among the white Snow Geese were 60 blue geese. On my = way southward along Bayshore Road about 2 miles north of Tolchester = Beach I noticed a large dark soaring bird that looked more like a = red-tail than a Turkey Vulture. In the binoculars it proved to be a = sub-adult GOLDEN EAGLE with a small amount of white at the base of the = inner primaries, and a narrow white tail base.=20 I worked my way down to Eastern Neck NWR where I found the Tundra Swans = back with 80 at the Narrows (Nancy also had 32 along MD-298 S. of = Melitota today). There were good numbers of gulls and terns at the = Narrows with 70 Forster's Terns and 10 Bonaparte's Gulls the highlights. = At Bogle's Wharf there were single Common and Red-throated Loons, and a = Horned Grebe. There was a latish Osprey at the Narrows as well. = Bufflehead have come in although they're still building up with 22 at = Eastern Neck. Ruddy Ducks are back in force with 310 at Eastern Neck.=20 I wrapped up at the John Hanson Rd Pond after a quick en route check at = Chesapeake Farms. I counted 190 Northern Pintail at Chesapeake Farms. = The Chestertown treatment plant pond was well attended with a Gadwall, = single Green-winged and Blue-winged Teal (getting late for the l;atter), = 2 Ring-necked Ducks, 1 Lesser Scaup, 6 Bufflehead, 250 Northern Shoveler = (many now in alternate plumage), 295 Ruddy Ducks, 2 coot, a Dunlin, 20 = Killdeer and a latish Lesser Yellowlegs.=20 Good Birding, =20 Walter Ellison 23460 Clarissa Road Chestertown, MD 21620 phone: 410-778-9568 e-mail: rossgull@crosslink.net "A person who is looking for something doesn't travel very fast" - E.
