I visited Point Lookout SP, hoping for rarities but figuring I'd at least see a decent variety of waterfowl. All the waterfowl species are listed below, not much variety but OK numbers. I had the most fun in the campground just before sunset, when many songbirds were actively feeding and bathing. Some species seen include: -Common Loon, about 60, almost all of them in the Potomac in one raft -Horned Grebe, 5 -B. Pelican, 3 -Tundra Swan, 1 -Can. Goose, heard at least 2 -Bufflehead, about 120, all in the Bay -Surf Scoter, 4 -Black Scoter, about 7 -Hooded Merganser, 8 -5 gull species, Laughing, Bonaparte's, Herring, R-billed, Gr. Black-backed -Forster's Tern, about 200, mostly perched on pilings -E. Phoebe, 2 -H. Thrush, about 5 -3 warbler sp., Yellow-rumped (only about 12), Palm (yellow, 2) and Pine (1, great looks as it was preening after its bath) -over 100 sparrows, mostly Junco and White-throated but also Song, Swamp, Towhee, Chipping It was a cool day with a light breeze. The high temperature was 47 F. Scott Baron Fairfax, Va. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo!
