Frederick County - The corn stubble fields along Oland Road held flocks of Horned Larks and Rock Pigeons. There was also a flyover group of 8 Snow Geese. The larks were difficult to see because they were at the far end of the field, away from a group of hunters setting up Canada Goose decoys. The birds at Lilypons were also edgy due to the sound of an occasional shotgun blast in the distance. The most productive area was along the dike that borders the Monacacy River and the ponds. Birds of note of the 40 species totaled included: Waterfowl - Canada Goose, Mallard, Green-winged Teal Am. Bittern (1 flushed from stands of cattails) Wilson's Snipe (1 flyover) Vultures - Turkey & Black (in a mixed group soaring overhead) Wild Turkey (3 hens) Woodpeckers - all but Red-headed Brown Creeper (1st of the season) Sparrows - Song (+), White-throated (+), White-crowned (1 immature), Swamp (10), Savannah (3), Am. Tree (1) & Fox (15) Tom Marko Olney, MD Montgomery Bird Club Email: tlmarko@us.med.navy.mil (work) nitojo@comcast.net (home) ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
