Pete, the AOU publishes their major revisions to the Check-List as numbered editions, probably about once every 10-15 years. In the intervening period they publish less ambitious revisions as Supplements to the Check-List. There have been at least two supplements (possibly more) to the 7th Edition. It was one of these where the Common Snipe was broken out, for example. The Supplements are usually published in Auk, the journal of the AOU. The major editions are very heavy, hardbound books that often tend to the somewhat pricey. Hope this clears up the confusion.
