Had fun getting them to the point they could ID 4 species of gulls in adult plumage, as well as tell adult from sub-adult. Is Conowingo next for them? er, maybe not yet. They also had fun following the many raccoon and deer prints. Not a lot of birds, but a couple goodies. Most interesting was the single RED-THROATED LOON seen flying north about 100 yards offshore. My favorite was the reliable OLDSQUAW, of which I had 3 drakes. Sorry, that is one name change I can't conform with. other birds: 8 Common Loons - one of which whinnied twice bald eagle - 2 adults sparring 7 Gadwall - across US 50 at what I know as the Raytheon Pond. Don't know the official or current name... several Great Blue Herons several Buffleheads 100+ Canada Geese 20+ Mallards 6 American Black Ducks Great Black-back, Herring, Ring-billed and LAUGHING GULLS Song Sparrow Northern Cardinal Golden-crowned Kinglet Carolina Chickadee Tufted Titmouse So here is my question: how can a guy bird in this area 2 days in a row, and only have a single stinking Aythya? I had one Ring-necked Duck at Horsehead yesterday. Nothing else. Am I on the bay, or did I get lost coming north?!? Good birding!
