Paul Pisano was present as well, but the Black-chinned Jim Felty watched between 0645 and 0700 had evidently departed before Paul arrived. After leaving the Ripley Garden I checked the Haupt Gardens (west of the Arts and Industries Building), but did not find either hummingbird there. On Sunday morning, shortly after 0730, I had encountered one hummingbird chasing another across the Haupt Gardens, exiting around the west sdie of the Castle building. I lost track of the birds as they disappeared around the corner. During the 20 or so minutes I spent at the Ripley Garden after 0745, the only hummingbird that seemed to be present was the Rufous/Allen's. I then made a couple of slow and unproductive circuits of the Haupt Garden before leaving for my office. I checked both the Ripley and Haupt Gardens again between 1450 and 1520 Sunday, without success. Nor did I encounter a hummingbird during a five-minute stop at the Ripley Garden shortly after 1630.
