It was chipping and acting territorial, and I heard what might have been an answering chitter. Perhaps another hummingbird (the Black-chinned?) was around and unseen. Also as I was there, the Cooper's Hawk that has been haunting the Mall flew out of the large magnolia in the Hirshhorn Garden. Yesterday morning, I (and others) watched two Bald Eagles, an adult and a immature, soaring and doing aerobatics over the Enid Haupt Garden (at one point diving quite low over the SI Castle). The Cooper's Hawk harassed one of them as they flew off. Add these to the other birds around the SI Mall, and you can see that at the moment, this is the place to be to watch birds!
