A Bald Eagle was seen near Tunis Mills (in front of my house) carrying nesting material on Nov 25th and 26th. Three trips were = observed; each time there were good loads of dry grass ripped up and carried = towards the nest site in nearby woods. Yesterday, the pair of eagles sat cozily together on a strong branch of a tree beside Leeds Creek. Ain't romance wonderful! Fox Sparrows (2) showed up in time to get counted on my first Feeder Watch submission from last week. Very few other birds around for that = count, including only 9 House Finches, as compared to 63 at this time last = year. Yesterday (12/01) a Brown Thrasher scolded from my driveway, letting me know that he may be around for our Christmas Count. Yesterday also, there was a single Snow Goose near Rest Circle (beside the Miles River) amongst a flock of some 800+ Canada Geese. =20 At the Pickering Creek wetlands on 12/1 there were close to 1000 Green-winged Teal, and one Northern Pintail. The entire flock moved = twice while I watched, making the counting much easier. First move was = inspired by a passing Cooper's Hawk. The second move was triggered by a Bald = Eagle visit. A Kestrel was also present, but the ducks saw no threat from him. During the 11/30 birdwalk along the Choptank near Cambridge lots of Common Loons and a few Horned Grebes were present, along with Goldeneye, Long-tailed Ducks and a few Baldpate. The Oakley Street site in = Cambridge is gaining the addition of a 20-unit Condominium Building, so the big = flocks of ducks that gather there will need to adjust. Hopefully, the = shoreline and water conditions will not be changed by the building, so the ducks = may continue to use the place. Very few were there on 11/30, but in a month = the hospitality of the new conditions will be tested.
