Frankly, the waterfowling was abysmal. However, other birding was really good. Top "other" birds were Rusty Blackbirds at Hughes Hollow and Sycamore Landing Rd., Red-headed Woodpecker -- an adult along Sycamore Landing Rd. - an adult Bald Eagle above Great Falls on the MD side, Winter Wren and Brown Creeper upstream of Great Falls, and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at several locations. We also had an American Tree Sparrow in with Juncos at Blockhouse Point. Along West Willard Rd. just south of Poolesville there were numerous Savannah Sparrows and Horned Larks feeding at the side of the road. A Wilson's Snipe was working the snowy edge of a small pond across West Willard Rd. from the entrance to the municipal golf course south of Poolesville. Mike Bowen Bethesda, MD D. H.
