My parrot showed no pre-quake jitters, though she certainly was freaked out afterwards. Bad memories of the 1989 San Francisco-area quake, I suspect (approximately 7.0 on the Richter scale). We lived in Berkeley then, and didn't notice any unusual behavior among the birds and other critters in the neighborhood ahead of the quake. Keep in mind that earthquakes generally come from sudden slippage along a fault, and there may not be noticeable (even by animals) advance tremors.
