I parked right there on Independence Ave. in front of the "castle" and spent from 7:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the Smithsonian where I ran into Chris Barnard. We made several circuits between the Ripley Garden and the Haupt Garden and briefly saw the Rufous hummer at the larger of the two feeders in the Ripley Garden at 8:15. Then at 9:15 the same bird visited the smaller of the two feeders and perched on a nearby branch, staying in sight for several minutes. The Black-chinned was not seen.
