On S= unday night, =20 don't know the time, was awakened by the hiss of a BARN OWL! Had never h= eard or seen =20 one in the wild. Heard it about three times close-by and a couple times = further away. =20 Left the widow cracked for sound and fresh breeze (@ 23 degrees or less).= A foot of =20 snow. Also on Sunday, late in the afternoon, but not quite dusk, heard a= LONG-EARED =20 OWL call a few times. An exciting experience with owls. Tuesday afternoon, 16 Dec, on I-70 about 15 miles west of Hagerstown in W= ashington =20 County saw a male RING-NECKED PHEASANT along the roadside very close to t= raffic. =20 Appeared to be collecting grit. First one I've seen in Maryland since I = was a child and first =20 living one ever in MD. There were 2 or 3 that I witnessed as road-kill i= n Pasadena along =20 Mountain Road in the late 70's/early 80's.
