He has been rescheduled for Friday, February 6. This Friday, January 2, 2004, we hope you will come to hear D. William = Mc Shea speak on: DEER AS ECOLOGICAL AGENTS WITHIN EASTERN FORESTS: DEER = RULE THE FOREST. He will discuss impacts to forest systems from = over-abundant deer populations and the impact on migratory birds, = vegetation, and mammals. Dr. William McShea has been a research = scientist for the National Zoo's Conservation and Research Center in = Front Royal Virginia for 17 years. His work is on wildlife management = and conservation issues both in the US and overseas. He has edited two = books, one on deer overabundance and the effects on wildlife and forest = ecosystems (1997) and one on oak ecosystems and wildlife (2002). His = publications cover deer, migratory birds, small mammals, and = wildflowers. He has studied deer populations in undisturbed forests in = Virginia for over 11 years and is an expert in the impacts of deer on = birds. This program will be held at the DNR Tawes Building in Annapolis, = beginning at 8:00 p.m. A head's up for our Thursday, March 4 meeting: Scott Weidensaul will be = the sepaker. This special program is our Richard Heise, Jr. Annual = Wildlife Lecture, named in honor of an early Anne Arundel Bird Club = member who contributed much to the Club's activities. It is a = fund-raising program with donations to go to the MOS scholarship and = sanctuary funds and will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the Blue Heron room of = Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis.
