I went out to wake up at Jug Bay (P.G. County, Mt. Calvert area) from about 7:30-9:00 AM. Low tide and frozen mud flats made for few "water" type birds. Nothing extraordinary, but a highly enjoyable morning since it was relatively quiet (few gunshots, the waterfowlers are having a "slow" morning). Saw about 45 species; noteworthy were 7 sparrows including Am. tree and fox; pied-billed grebe; purple finch; red-headed woodpecker; bald eagle; red shouldered hawk; mallard; black duck; N. pintail; N. shovelor; common merganser; and the other usual winter passerines. I hope to scan the Bay again later this afternoon when more water is here.
