Not a lot of birds, but they were all firsts for 2004! The highlight was a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers -- I don't know whether they actually pair up at this time of year, but there was a male and a female. Same for the two Downys in the same area. And one Red-bellied, far short of a clean sweep of woodpeckers, but nice. Maybe the mild weather had the birds' biology rushing a bit. There were a couple Mockingbirds up the street who appeared to be courting. And of course the pair of Mallards on the creek have every right to consort as a couple in winter. Just for the record, the usual White-throats, Juncos, Starlings, Robins, Pigeons (I can call them that now, can't I?), a singing Carolina Wren & one lone Carolina Chickadee. -- Carrol Cowan Washington DC ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
