I walked in the gravel road from Queen Anne Bridge Road and heard some rustling from the woods on the left (between the gravel path & the road). I looked into the wet, low lying woods, some of which is under water after the recent rains. As I inch into the woods a bit, a bird exploded from the edge of the trees. It was an American Woodcock. I saw its red belly and its wings whistled as it flew in a zig-zag motion over a regenerating field with lots of small pines, where I lost sight of the bird.
