Perhaps numbers will increase once the gunnin' season ends later this month? At any rate I did manage to see some ducks throught the dense fog. They were: Canada Goose (500+), Mallard (20 or so), Ring-necked Duck (1), Canvasback (200+), Bufflehead (100 or so), Ruddy Duck (12), also seen was American Coot (15). My most notable bird of the morning was an immature Red- headed Woodpecker (RHWO) that is probably the same RHWO seen there in November. The bird was in the same general area as it was two months ago and was caching food so it seems it will be around for the winter. It can be found by driving the loop at the park stopping at the first dumpster. It seems to be somewhat curious when you are pishing. When I arrived home I was happy to see a Hairy Woodpecker in the Tulip Poplars in my yard. This bird was seen again later in the afternoon along Hances Point Road. For some reason Hairy Woodpecker is a hard bird for me so it was nice to have one hanging around all day. Other birds of note in and around my yard were Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Common Merganser, and Bald Eagle.
