A controlled burn of the marsh was underway along Shorter's Wharf Road, and the hawks were feasting on the rodents driven around by the fire. Lots of great views of the birds 'pedaling' in the sky and competing for the prey. Later, along the wildlife drive at least 24 Bald Eagles were seen. Some were pretty close to the road, but none as close for viewing as our Tunis Mills eagles have been. The local pair continues to use our Osprey Platform and any of several trees in our yard as perching places. When we come and go, they usually scream at us, and the female usually flies off, but the male often just stays put. In the cold and wind of today many birds have now shown up at my feeders, though some species are still in very low numbers.
