Today, around 10 A.M., I was coming in my driveway when I spotted the local Red-tailed Hawk sitting in a tree. I stopped to admire it right near the stream that flows under the driveway. A movement caught my eye in the water. It was several Cedar Waxwings bathing for all they were worth. It was 22 F out and snow flurrying! Then, right alongside them were 2 E. Bluebirds. A Downy was foraging around a tree trunk, there were Juncos flitting back and forth over the stream, and Goldfinches feeding along the bank. Before I tore myself away to drive the rest of the way up the driveway, a Song Sparrow dropped in for a dip and half a dozen Waxwings landed above me in the highest tree. Not bad for a quick look at the Red-tail. Also, since the week before Christmas, there have been a pair of Pileateds frequenting the woods behind my yard and passing over the yard. I see or hear them almost every day now. Keep feeding the birds!
