(This bird has been reported regularly in the past from this location, most recently by Paul Pisano.) The second bird was zooming fast over the National Park Service nursery next to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (KAG) at around 11 a.m., heading east. I also saw 2 adult BALD EAGLES today, one perched on a large tree on the Hains Point Golf Course, the other being mobbed by crows at the Aquatic Gardens. Other birds of interest today in DC were: 4 female COMMON MERGANSERS in the Tidal Basin (on the 1/3 of it that isn't frozen). a BELTED KINGFISHER at KAG (though all water there seemed to be frozen) 1 AMERICAN TREE SPARROW and 5 FOX SPARROWS along the marsh boardwalk at KAG a female BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD in with Starlings on the Hains Point golf course (my first of the year, but undoubtedly not my last!) 1 first-winter LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL sitting with Herring Gulls at Georgetown Reservoir (where there was the usual flock of about 30 RING-NECKED DUCK). AMERICAN ROBINS were widespread, with a flock of over 100 around the Tidal Basin and a comparably sized flock at KAG. In both cases, American Holly berries were the attraction. I saw 2 CEDAR WAXWINGS with the Robins at the last location, but I'm sure there were plenty more around somewhere. KAG also had a flock of about 20 (female) RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS.
