Supposedly, the 4-note song (phee-bee-bee-phee) differs for the two species, but I am told that one cannot rely on this. Black-capped are very rare (or very hard to tell from Carolinas?) in Maryland. The two-note call is fairly common -- supposedly the phee-bee call.
